Sewing and embroidery

A week passed by here at home ... i'm going to say it again ...... how did that happen?

A  few days since i wrote most of the wording to this post.  I've tried for the last 3 days to get blogger to upload pictures, today it finally let me do it

We are fine, hubby and I get on really well.  Reading,  crafting, gardening, him DIY, phone calls, video calls, baking, tea breaks, plenty keeping us entertained and busy.

 I've tried ribbon embroidery.
A kit purchased a few years back at a craft show.

I was asked if I would try and make some cotton face masks so me and the sewing machine have made friends again (and got on just fine).

I've made 7 like this in differing fabrics.

The Big Community Sew (Patrick, Esme and others from the Sewing Bee)

Watching Springwatch 2020 and still posting my daily pictures for the 30 days wild.

Here's a catch up of my postings

Day 4 - London Pride growing well

Day 5 - Spending far too much time watching these characters

Day 6 - Rain - a lot of it

Day 7 - Poplar trees in a neighbours garden really rustle in the wind.  They are about 75 feet tall and are home to so many birds, squirrels and even a woodpecker which comes onto our feeders sometimes.

Day 8 - Bark on my pear tree.
Lots of bugs being eaten from there by the birds.

Day 9 - Strawberries.  A few delivered to us from the community garden. Volunteers are still venturing there (one family at a time) and keeping the crops growing for the community to share. The first of this years crop shared with us too.

Day 10 - 8.05pm 1 flower, 8.15pm 2 flowers.  This plant was given to us.  not sure what it is, but the flowers only come out in the evening and die the same night.  Evening Primrose style?  Anyone know what it is?

Day 11 - Something burrowed under the fence during last night from next door.  Wrecked the plants!  Wildlife Trusts think maybe we have a visiting hedgehog?   More investigation and evidence needed.

We've been spending a lot of time for weeks watching ospreys at one of my favourite local places on their online live camera. It's been really exciting watching the parents arrive back from afar and lay 4 eggs.  Maya (female) and 33 (male) are catching fish and raising their 4 chicks so beautfully.  They grow so quickly and are so fun to watch.

I've started a new knitting project, something I have wanted to make for a long time.  I'll share that with you next time.

Love and blessings from our home to yours
Take care, stay safe

Julie

  2. Hubby and I get along well, we often do things together but also have time apart, whilst sharing the same space. I have finished my last lot of mask, for a local family, it's very hard to get elastic, most on sale is knicker elastic, which is not that strong.

  3. Thank you so much for the link to the Community Sew - I love the Sewing Bee and have been messing around with my sewing machine for the first time in years - making a mask would be something practical to try. ARen't the squirrels so cute to watch - this slowed down lifestyle has been brilliant for nature watching - don't want it to end :)

  6. Lovely wild photos & I'd probably watch the squirrels a lot too. Those strawberries do look delicious. We've not had the latest Sewing Bee (Patick's a bit dishy), but I've been keeping a watch out for it & hope we get it soon. Thanks for the link for face masks which I'll print out tomorrow. Take care, stay safe & huggles.

  10. I tried to leave a comment earlier but it wouldn't let me so I'll try again. The ribbon embroidery is beautiful, something I've never tried. How lovely that families still have the community garden to tend at this time, it's something for them to come together over, even if they're only allowed to visit one family at a time. The strawberries look delicious, they're the thing I've missed most after giving up the allotment. I could watch squirrels for hours, such entertaining little creatures.

  12. Lots of lovely things in your post and it was good to catch up with your 30 Days Wild photos too. I love your cat and mouse weather vane. I wonder what burrowed under your fence? It will be interesting to find out more. Squirrels are always amusing to watch especially when trying to pinch the bird seed:)

  14. Have a look at hedgehogstreet.org with ideas for reconnecting gardens with small holes in connecting fences. Allows hedgehogs to wander and find all the food they need without damaging your plants.
I was hoping someone would know what that lovely yellow plant is, but not yet.

  16. I had a few issues with adding photos the other day too. I guess they are trying to get us all to move to the new interface!
Love the garden photos. I watched this wonderful video about a man who built a Ninja Run for his squirrels, it really is fun.

  17. Sorry to be late commenting, I followed a link and then life interrupted.
I like your mask, was it complicated? I made the other type with pleats and found it hard, with my sewing machine protesting about all the layers (with the pleats).
Love all your photos! Don’t know the mystery plant.
I hope your visitor was a hedgehog! We had a badger visit the other night and I took photos (very dark ones as it was around 10pm) and then later that evening saw something small and dark in our garden, again not sure what it was! We are hoping we have a hedgehog. If you can visit Instagram my photo of the badger is there.
I love reading all the comments here 😁
    Hugs, keep safe and well!

  18. While staying confined is not ideal, I think many people have discovered that they can fill their days more easily than they expected.
    Your ribbon embroidery is lovely.
